Kevin Silva, Class of 1971, first started riding motorcycles in the early 70's. A few years later, brother Brian, Class of 1974, started riding with him and they rode together for the better part of the next decade. They owned several motorcycles through the '70's - mostly Harley Davidson's - and built two by themselves. Kevin actually built one in his basement and Brian built one in his parents carport, three houses down from Holy Trinity. Following those years, family and work got in the way, they both sold their motorcycles hoping that one day they might ride again, but thinking it would probably never happen.
Then, in 1998, the found a custom motorcycle builder in Hempstead and they both had custom Harley's built. They hadn't been on motorcycles for almost 20 years, but they turned on the ignition and took the bikes down to Jones Beach. That summer they began what has turned into a 17 year tradition of great summer motorcycle trips together. Each year, they take a week together and head off into the open air. They have seen a fair amount of the US (Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Virginia, W. Virginia, Delaware, DC, Maryland, South and North Dakota, Wyoming), parts of Canada (Nova Scotia and Montreal) and a fair amount of Europe (Italy, France, Monaco, Spain, Germany, Luxemburg, Belgium, Holland, Ireland, Norway and Sweden).
Next time you meet one of the Silva brothers, they can probably tell you a few great stories from one of their motorcycle adventures!
