The road in front of HTHS has a new name! Read about it below:
Written by Jim Johnson ('76)
“For Pete’s Sake” Way is an homage to Peter Johnson, a founding member of the Holy Trinity Titan Club and a lifelong supporter of this school. When he passed away in 2018, his son, Jim (HTHS Class of ’76) eulogized his dad by encouraging everyone to perform one random act of kindness per day, “For Pete’s Sake.”
Jim remembered his dad saying, “there are a lot of forces trying to pull us apart these days. It’s important that the good people stick together.”
When you look at this sign, we hope that you are inspired to try and make a difference in your corner of the world today in memory of this great Titan parent and role model.
Peter Johnson was born and raised in Brooklyn and earned a GED before joining the Navy in 1949. He married Jean (HTHS Hall of Fame Class of 1997), and they had four children. The Johnson's placed a premium on Catholic education and all four children (Jim ’76; Peter ’78; Jean ’80 and Joseph ’84) attended Holy Family School and Holy Trinity High School in Hicksville.
Like many early Titan parents, Mr. Johnson worked three jobs to ensure his children’s Catholic education, and was simply one of the kindest people on the planet. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus (Keep Christ in Christmas!), the American Legion and Catholic War Veterans, and he faithfully offered eight rosaries per day – one for each of his grandchildren.
Let this sign be a reminder that as a member of the Holy Trinity community, you are one of the “good people.” In special memory of a true Titan, “For Pete’s Sake,” may you have a wonderful day!
