HOLY TRINITY GRADUATE, EDWARD DENNEHY ('98), ORGANIZES CURBSIDE MASK DONATION AT HTHS ON EASTER SUNDAY
(Friday, April 10, 2020 – Hicksville, NY) – With the COVID-19 crisis continuing to bring hardship to Long Island, it is encouraging to see people taking the initiative to look out for those who need our support now more than ever.
One of these generous people is Edward Dennehy ('98), who has been organizing curbside mask donations for first responders and medical professionals across the island. He and his team have already donated thousands of masks to Long Beach Police Department, Rockville Centre Police Department, Mercy Medical Center, Wantagh Fire Department, Nassau County Office of Emergency Management & Nassau County Office of Corrections.
“We do this because we want to make sure than people who need the masks actually get them, rather than delivering one box [to a particular location] that can be 'lost,'” Dennehy explains. “These masks are selling for $4-$5 each in some places, so I don’t want anyone to profit from the donation.”
Dennehy is also a proud Holy Trinity alum and feels that the Catholic values instilled in him as a student directly influenced this project. “My father died when I was 14 and coming to Holy Trinity as a transfer saved my childhood. It was the best experience I’ve had educationally.” In addition to the immediate need that this project fulfills, Dennehy ultimately wants to “raise awareness that regular people can help make a difference.”
This Easter Sunday, Edward and his team will return to his alma mater and hold a 1,000 Mask Donation at Holy Trinity HS. The masks will be distributed curbside to healthcare professionals as they drive through Holy Trinity's entranceway off of Route 106/Newbridge Road.
The donation event will be held on Sunday, April 12th from 11:00am to 12:30pm.
