HOLY TRINITY SOFTBALL STANDOUT, MEGAN BUTTERWORTH (‘09), NAMED VARSITY SOFTBALL HEAD COACH
(Wednesday, July 17, 2019 - Hicksville, NY) – Holy Trinity Diocesan High School is proud to announce that Titan alumna Megan Butterworth (‘09) has been named the new Head Coach for Holy Trinity Softball. Coach Jackie Lombardi, who headed the program the last two years and is currently HT’s Director of Admissions, will stay on as a Varsity Assistant.
During her Holy Trinity career, Butterworth played under Coach Susan Cassidy-Lyke and served as a pitcher and right fielder. She earned NSCHSGAA All-League honors and was a part of the State Championship team in 2007. She continued on to play Division II softball at Molloy College, where her name quickly became synonymous with the Lions softball program. Her collegiate accomplishments include being named All-East Coast Conference First Team all four years, three ECC Championships, two NCAA East Regional Championships, and two appearances in the Division II National Championship. Her senior year earned her ECC Pitcher of the Year, Daktronics East Region Pitcher of the Year, NFCA and Daktronics All-American Second Team, CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team, CoSIDA Academic All-American Second Team, and the E.C.C. Award. She is still the Molloy Softball all-time leader in innings pitched, wins, and shutouts while also holding the second-place spot for strikeouts, ERA, complete games, and appearances. In 2019, Butterworth was inducted into Molloy College’s Athletics Hall of Fame.
For the past six seasons, Butterworth was the Assistant Coach for LIU Post Softball. In each of her first three years with LIU Post, she coached the eventual ECC Pitcher of the Year. In 2015, Butterworth coached the pitching staff to end up leading the ECC and ranking in the Top-25 in the nation in earned-run average as well as second-fewest hits and runs, while striking out the second-most batters. In the program’s final season, LIU Post made it to the NCAA Division II Championship and was ranked #8 in the NFCA Final DII National Poll.
Butterworth completed her degree in Adolescent Math Education at Molloy College. After teaching for several years at St. Raymond’s School in East Rockaway, she returns to Holy Trinity as a member of our Mathematics Department. When asked about coming back to HT, Butterworth stated, "I am thrilled to be returning to Holy Trinity, a school that has made such a difference in my life. I can't wait to be in the classroom and on the field with their incredible teachers, administrators, and students."
